Tumby Bay is renown for the King George Whiting!
Salmon, Mullet, Sweep, Tommy Ruff, Garfish, Flathead, Snapper and Squid are also amongst the more popular species caught from jetties, boats, beach and reef. The district abounds with secluded sandy beaches and rock headlands.
Tumby Bay has a fantastic long jetty for the land based angler. Second creek and various rocky outcrops are also good fishing locations.
For the boating
enthusiasts, the Marina has a modern double boat ramp to cater for high numbers during the summer and when word gets out the fish are biting.

A unique marine sanctuary located 12 nautical miles east of Tumby Bay, the Sir Joseph Banks Group of Islands is a breeding ground for a large variety of sea
birds, seals, dolphins and fish, with the King George whiting and snapper the most sought after.
This beautiful chain of islands offers a range of lovely sheltered bays, golden sandy beaches and reefs teeming with marine life.
A day trip or overnighter on the islands will provide the visitor with a memorable and rewarding experience

I thought it may be interesting to keep a record of all the fish caught in the Tumby Bay area by our guests. Here is a record of what fish have been cleaned at our modern fish cleaning table. We are happy to share GPS spots with our guests when you arrive. Even a couple secret ones but don't tell anyone else.
3rd - 30th March 2011- over 300 King George Whiting at Hospital Grounds and further round the Bay
3rd April 2011 - 24 king George Whiting at the Hospital Grounds
7th April 2011 - Fishing Charter to Groups - 40 King George Whiting
8th April 2011 - 10 Blue Swimmer Crabs from Second Creek
8th April 2011 - 25 Large Razor Fish from the Island Point
11th April 2011 - 6 squid and 3 doz tommies from the jetty
12th April 2011 - 19 Whiting and sweep around Tumby Island. A few squid from Ski Beach
17th April 2011 - 24 King George Whiting from the bay and a doz Whiting from the Ballast grounds.
19th April 2011 - 24 King George Whiting caught in the bay and several good size squid from the jetty.
21st April 2011 - A good catch of whiting, garfish and tommies from the Hospital grounds
23rd April 2011 - 15 Squid caught at second creek, blue swimmer crabs still being collected from second creek.
29th April 2011 - Lots of squid from town jetty and several good sized 42cm King George Whiting from Jetty
4th May 2011 - King George Whiting and tommies are being caught from the jetty. Whiting are also being caught from a boat at white holes from Tumby Bay lookout point.
6th May 2011 - Good sized salmon and tommies were caught out from Tumby Bay Ski Beach spit.
7th May - King George Whiting were biting well at Tumby Bay Look Out Point not far from shore.
7th May - 10th May. 4 days in a row a family has caught their bag limit of King George Whiting at the western side of the groups, plus many Tommies and red mullet and squid. Tumby Bay and the Sir Joseph Banks Group of Islands is being very productive.
